The quest-givers will grant players 12 Glamour Prisms to get them started. Once their Level 15 quest has been completed, players will be able to modify the appearance of their best equipment in Final Fantasy XIV. Note that you're applying Glamour over existing gear in your Character menu, so when you replace gear pieces with new equipment, you lose the Glamour effect on that corresponding equipment slot until you return to a city and apply the same Glamour Plate again. To unlock the ability to use Glamour Prisms in FFXIV, players can speak to either Swyrgeim in Western Thanalan at X:12.6, Y:14.3, or Wiscard in Mor Dhona at X:22.1, Y:6.7. Then, when you're ready to apply your Glamour Plate, simply choose the plate you'd like and select the apply button to apply it to your current gear.

When you're satisfied with the layout of your Glamour Plate, press the save button to lock it in. You can view your outfit as you mix and match different Glamour items. Assigning Glamour items to your Glamour Plates is as simple as going down the list of equipment slots and choosing which items from your Glamour Dresser you'd like to apply there. You can set up 15 Glamour Plates by default. Glamour Plates are preset outfits that you can assign at a Glamour Dresser and apply from your Character menu while standing in any city or residential zone. The Glamour Plates system is especially handy for creating outfits and easily applying them on the fly without returning to a Glamour Dresser. Once an item is in there, you can apply it to as many pieces of gear as you'd like. When you're ready to convert a piece of equipment into a Glamour item, simply select it from the righthand menu and expend one of the Glamour Prisms from your inventory to convert it to an option in the Glamour Dresser menu. Once you're in front of one, you'll see a menu that includes all of the items you've already Glamour-ified (on the left) as well as a second window on the right which is where you can scan through the different tabs and view the equipment in your Armoury Chest or your Inventory that has yet to be glammed. These Glamour Dressers are found inside of inn rooms and your Grand Company Barracks. You can turn virtually any piece of gear into a Glamour item when you visit a Glamour Dresser. You'll need to complete the quest for each Disciple of Hand job you plan to craft Glamour Prisms with. If you want to craft your own Glamour Prisms and Glamour Dispellers, you can easily do this once you level any Disciple of Hand job up to 15 and speak to Swyrgeim in Vesper Bay in Western Thanalan and take the quest "Absolutely Glamorous". You can also find Glamour Prisms and Glamour Dispellers at most market boards, since players tend to sell these items in large quantities on all servers. Glamour Prisms and dispellers can be purchased from your respective Grand Company Quartermaster in the Tier 2 Materiel section.

If you want to use the other method of unlocking the Glamour system for whatever reason, you must be level 50 or higher and do the A Self-Improving Man quest located in Mor Dhona (X: 22 Y: 6) located shortly north of the Aetheryte.

Beginning at level 15, you can complete Swyrgeim's two quests in Western Thanalan (X:12.6, Y:14.3, aka Vesper Bay) that unlock both aspects of the Glamour system: “If I Had a Glamour” (for applying Glamour and using Glamour Plates) and “Absolutely Glamourous” (for crafting Glamour Prisms and Glamour Dispellers). There are several ways to unlock the Glamour system in Final Fantasy 14.
